Last time I mentioned playing Halo 3. My impressions were more on the negative side. Carefully enjoying the game more than Halo 1 remake while worried about its quality after completing it.

Itā€™s been a while since I completed Halo 3, here are my impressions of it:

Completed Game:

Halo 3

The game turned out to be decent. Iā€™m happy that there wasnā€™t a lot of asset re-use. It is at least not on the same scale as Halo 1 remake. For me, that was really the biggest problem in that game. A little bit of variety goes a long way to making it more enjoyable. Iā€™ve also noted before not enjoying the cutscenes or the story. While I still donā€™t care about the story, the cutscenes in the last half are better directed, making them at least fun enough to watch. Although I did not like when Cortana kept talking the whole time in a certain level, stopping the flow of the gameplay.

Itā€™s without a question that as far as Iā€™m concerned, Halo 3 is better than Halo 1. Although itā€™s still not enough to make me a Halo fan. I donā€™t think that will happen anymore. Butā€¦I still have Halo Reach from my collection. Thanks to Halo 3, I am actually looking forward to playing Halo Reach now.

New Game:

Soul Sacrifice Delta

This is a game that I was not supposed to start with This happened suddenly because a friend wants to play the game on co-op. I already completed Soul Sacrifice vanille, 100% story mode and some of the optional side missions. I was hoping to complete Soul Sacrifice vanille 100% before jumping on this game. Oh well.

The game starts exactly the same way as Soul Sacrifice vanille. Only it looks sharper, the resolution being better. Itā€™s only when you complete Sortiaraā€™s chapter, then you will start to see some of the new content. Such as new missions dedicated to Sanctuary and Grim factions (2 new factions next to Avalon). You also unlock Bazaar mode where you get to buy outfits, receive rumours and use them. Using rumours during missions, EXP is increased when you sacrifice monsters for instance. Iā€™m looking forward to experimenting with that option.

What I love in Soul Sacrifice Deltaā€¦is that you have a data base where you can see the magic you have collected and how many you have left. You also get rewarded with new magic once you collect a certain amount. Alsoā€¦you can now combine magic in real time to create new affects. If you combine fire with a swordā€¦you will have a fire sword etc.

Currently Playing:

Plants vs. Zombies PS3 (48/60)
Angry Birds Trilogy Vita (1750/2715)
Nintendogs+Cats

It might be surprising to see certain games that I havenā€™t mentioned before. Those are the kind of games that I rarely play and donā€™t really care about my progress in themā€¦until I get into them or am very far with them. For a while I played Angry Birds Trilogy while playing more meaty games like Halo 3 etc. Lately Iā€™m only playing Plants vs, Zombies. I also donā€™t mention certain games that I play again for a couple of minutes thanks to Streetpass on the 3DS. You can think of Super Mario 3D Land and Theatrhythm FF for instance, theyā€™re not worth mentioning after already completing them.

Future Games and Thoughts:
As mentioned beforeā€¦I haveā€™t been playing much lately. My main focus has been on casual games. First it was Angry Birdsā€¦then it became Plants vs. Zombies this past week. Iā€™ve been trying to play more Soul Sacrifice Delta. Iā€™m loving that gameā€¦but I either donā€™t have the time for it, feel too tired or donā€™t feel like playing deep games. Iā€™m hoping to play more with Soul Sacrifice Delta, Etrian Mystery Dungeon and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

As far as future gamesā€¦my plan is thatā€¦if I start on a new game, it will only be an Xbox 360 game. I have around 13-15 Xbox 360 games left. While playing those gamesā€¦Iā€™ll try to complete games that Iā€™ve already started on from my backlog. Those are around 15 games that include whatā€™s already mentioned and games that Iā€™ve played ages ago but left them for whatever reason (such as playstation all stars battle royale, Theatrhythm FF Curtain Call and Archibaldā€™s Adventures). There will probably be exceptionsā€¦but Iā€™ll try to keep them to a minimum.

fucking hell how do you miss two 91% shots in a row

#746

Well, you have a 0.81% probability to miss two of those in a row and considering how many shots you fire in a video game it is bound to happen sooner or later.

#747

Each shot has a 91% chance to hit. The odds donā€™t increase or decrease the more shots you make if they will hit or miss as each shot is rolled independently. So you are just as likely to hit both shots as you are to miss both shots as you are to only hit once between the two when you take the hit percentage in play.

I completed the first season of Telltaleā€™s Game of Thrones and they clearly didnā€™t have enough time to wrap up the story. Overall it was okay, but I donā€™t think I will pick up the next season until itā€™s heavily discounted.

so how different can XCOM be from playthrough to playthrough? i thought this was the kind of game to be about playing multiple times, and it does seem like thatā€™s the case, but there doesnā€™t seem to be a lot of possible variation other than perhaps difficulty level? i was in a bit of a rut but i made it out of the alien base with everyone alive and now iā€™m def trucking with new guns and stuff

also bought Stacking with money i made selling cards, its very fun but itā€™s def a last gen game in all the little ways

The new XCOM (2012) doesnā€™t have procedurally generated levels, unlike the original game (1994). It also lacks the base management part. I suppose you could try playing the game with a different squad setup if you want variation.

Been playing some more for the past 2-3 days. Itā€™s probably because Iā€™ve been sick around that time.

The most played game has been [b]Etrian Mystery Dungeon[\b] (with Plants vs Zombies once) Boy, I havenā€™t touched that one in a while. The 4th branch was pretty annoying with the introduction of DOE for the first time. Theyā€™re the FOE of Etrian Odyssey games. Only these try to reach the town and you can only stop them by building forts that can be destroyed. A fort costs at least 1500.

As mentioned before, this EMD is decent and lots of fun but itā€™s not as good or better than EOIV. One thing I like about this a lotā€¦is that when you use a party, the characters that are not used still level up. They level up regardless but they gain levels more quickly when you let them defend forts. I really love that because of this, all party members grow in level together and they are all useful. With EOIV you had to make a choice and stick with it. Here you have the freedom to experiment and use whoever you want.

Kingā€™s Quest: Chapter I -"A Knight to Remember is pretty fun. There seem to be some branching paths and multiple ways of solving the same task. My only complaints are that you spend too much time walking and the puzzles are a bit too simple.

There are 2 games Iā€™ve ā€˜completedā€™. One of them was close to being completed and another was a backlog game you guys didnā€™t know about before.

Completed Games:
Plants vs. Zombies
Soul Calibur V Story Mode

Plants vs. Zombies was a surprise. I really didnā€™t expect much from it at the beginning. Expecting it to get old quickly. Because it felt like when you get some decent cards, you can use a certain formula that always worked. Only the thing is, whenever I felt comfortable, the game changed things up. You are taken to a different area that demands new strategies and different types of cards (or plants). The game also has lots of humour in its writing and its setting. It managed to keep my interest all the way.

There are also optional content you can do. There is puzzle mode, mini-games modeā€¦money to collect in order to complete your collectionā€¦plants to take care of. I am done with the main game, but I see myself returning to it to do the optional content.

Soul Calibur V is a game I started with around a year ago. It was because the game is very popular with a group of friends when we hang out. We would always compete and I would join them while having little experience with the game. So I decided to start with it ASAP in order to train and keep up with them. The game has many new gameplay additions to make it different from IV. It feels quickerā€¦less focus on the weapons you have, there are specials that werenā€™t there before in SC games etc. The story mode was pretty entertaining but typical with the brother and sister bond in Japanese type of games. The story mode was also short. I did say ā€˜completedā€™ but that canā€™t really be the case with fighting games. This SCV is known for having little singleplayer content but there is still enough to do here. In Quick Battle you can collect titles for instance. Iā€™m still planning to get more out of this game. Story mode felt like an introduction.

And soā€¦those are the last PS3 games from my current backlog. Whenever I feel like playing on the PS3, Iā€™ll return to them. My current backlog list will remain a priority.

Gauntlet: Slayer Edition (PS4) greatly exceeded my low expectations. I donā€™t think I will complete it by myself, but it is probably awesome to play in co-op.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter (PS4) is half walking simulator and half murder mystery. It is astonishingly beautiful and the atmosphere is really thick. The music is fantastic too. It took me a while to figure out that there are actual tasks to solve. When I started it I thought it would be narration only, like Dear Esther.

#755

I streamed a bit of Gauntlet in co-op. Itā€™s fun, but itā€™s missing loot and needs something else to help the repetition.

#756

Did you unlock any new gear? I noticed that it is possible to customize each character.

#757

oh my god the new game from the stanley parable dudes is voiced by simon amstell! and itā€™s fantastic! the most adorable person

#758

I picked up an Elgato HD60 and have been streaming Halo 5. I plan to stream a lot of my gameplay just for fun.

@OneEightZero are you apart of a team on Twitch? If not it might be fun to create a WYL team if one of us were to get partnered.

#759

Iā€™m not. But I wouldnā€™t hold your breath about my being able to stream much in the future. Iā€™m about to move and the internet will not be as good where Iā€™m moving. I donā€™t know if itā€™ll be enough to continue streaming.

#760

Thatā€™s unfortunate. Is it a good move?

How has your streaming been going? Even though no one watches me, it is still fun to do and is making me want to play more games that I would normally play.

#761

Itā€™s tough. Twitch is really big and itā€™s hard to get an audience, much less a viewer. Itā€™s not like the Justin tv days.
