RPGs? Yuck.
Fake edit: Yes I am.
It was just a shot in the dark. I donβt expect it to be reasonable idea. Itβs seeming like all other effort is being exhausted and nothing else is bringing Japanese people back to console RPGs. They love Dark Souls though. At least thereβs that.
Dunno. Maybe a combination of Persona 5, Final Fantasy 15, and Dragon Quest 11 will be enough to reignite excitement for consoles in Japan again.

And for December alone:
Talk about annoying inconsistency. How hard is it to list them in a consistent orderβ¦
Yes yes. I know they are in order of sales but the article doesnβt say that and it took me looking it up elsewhere to confirm.

I donβt get Nintendo. Clearly, XL is selling far more even in Japan, yet they still get the New 3DS. Not the US. Nintendo continues to repeat itself on that decision: βdifferent regions call for different business strategiesβ. The New 3DS is selling not so hot in Japan. Iβm not sure how itβs selling in Europe. Know anything about that, @archnemesis?
It will be released today in Europe and I havenβt heard any pre-order numbers.
The mainstream Japanese audience typically doesnβt support new consoles until there are popular exclusive games. The New 3DS will sell well enough to justify its existence, but I donβt think it will do great in any region.
The NPD Groupβs results for January are in with Dying Light securing the top of the software chart and hardware sales showing a fall of 23 percent after the Christmas hype.
βJanuary 2015 retail sales data across hardware, software and accessories decreased by 6 percent from January 2014, with growth in software (up $12.4 million) and Accessories (up $5.4 million) unable to offset hardware declines of $54 million,β said The NPD Groupβs Liam Callahan.
The newer consoles like Xbox One and PlayStation 4 saw sales fall by 22 percent while the older, βseventh generationβ machines saw a decrease of 35 percent.
βThe combined hardware install base of PS4 and Xbox One is close to 60 percent higher than the cumulative hardware totals for Xbox 360 and PS3 at the same point in their lifecycles (after 15 months).β
Dying Light hasnβt just secured the number one in sales but also the honor of the highest month one sales for new IP in the Survival Horror genre, beating Bethesdaβs Evil Within.
βSoftware spending rose 5 percent from January 2014 as eighth generation console spending outpaced seventh generation console software sales. Eighth generation software increased by 74 percent, seventh generation decreased by 36 percent and dedicated portable software sales dropped by 12 percent,β said Callahan.
βThe sales of January 2015 launch titles were up over 200 percent versus January 2014, with Dying Light being the major new release of the month. If January 2015 releases performed in line with January 2014 releases, overall software sales would have decreased by 4 percent.β
In accessories there was a small 3 percent increase. Increases were seen across gamepads, interactive gaming toys, headsets/headphones, and power supplies compared to January 2014.
