Civilization VI - A tale as old as the test of time

#1

Gameplay

  • Most Civ V systems returning: Trade Routes, Religion, Archeology, Great Works
  • One Unit Per Tile less strict and congested: Support units (siege weapons, antitank, antiair) stack with military units, civilian units can stack with escort units, 2UPT (Corps), 3UPT (Armies)
  • Cities expand beyond one tile: buildings now placed as districts on the map. Wonders take up tiles too.
  • Active tech research: 50% tech completion doing related world actions, slow otherwise
  • Local Happiness returns instead of Civ V’s Global Happiness
  • Civ AI leaders that have more readable agendas and rhyme to their reason
  • War is more common and loose in the game’s starting eras and more formalized in the end
  • New Multiplayer modes that can wrap up in a single sitting (1-2 hours)

Visuals

  • Overworld map and units that read cleaner and more distinctive than in Civ V
  • Age of Exploration theme: UI, black FoW is blank cartographer map with “here be dragons” etc, grey FoW is ink-styled cartographer’s map
  • Units have ethnic flair for each civilization
  • Wonders have intermediate build stages, completion movies a la Civ IV
  • New showcasing of completed Great Works

It sounds great. As always, it will be the quality of the AI that determines if it’s fantastic or just good.

#4

2 and 3 unit stacks should help them out.

#5

That’s a fair compromise between mega-stacks and spamming the board with single units.

I NEED IT

#7

I only watched the first 10 minutes, but it looks much nicer in motion and I like all of the changes to the gameplay that he mentioned. Day one, etc.

#8

Named continents, envoys for diplomacy with city states/civs, the return of civics as a tech tree and government types for culture, builders replace workers (build tile improvements instantly but with limited charges), districts built by cities over time, additional things to turn production into (faith, etc), amenities affect city happiness, housing caps city population, bombers can target districts, 64-bit, beefed up city state quest system, multiplayer mods will be supported, air combat redone, etc.

My hype is out of control.

Loving the new mechanical depth that the Endless Legends-like unstacked cities offer. Also visualizes a number of city buildings that were “heard” and not seen.

Will it still be part of the EU?

HYPE OVERLOAD

#18

I had to stop watching halfway through. I already know I’m going to buy it day one and I don’t want to spoil all of the new features.
