Nomura wants more Final Fantasy remakes from the SNES era

Who knows. If the FFVII remake is a success (we know it will be), then they may find it worthwhile to remake the other FF that is always either #1 or #2 in someone’s “top 10 FF” list, FFVI. PS4 hasn’t been catching on in Japan currently, but if there ever was a single game to put a fire under Japan’s ass to buy the console, FFVII remake would be the holy grail.

I’m not completely sold on FFXV, but I think that’s because we still haven’t seen very much of the game. They gave us a vertical slice demo, and presentation-wise, it made for a pretty boring demo. Episode Duscae was just “look, it exists in playable form. now leave us alone!” It certainly paled in comparison to the FFVII and FFVIII demos, and between those two, FFVIII was the far more memorable one. I still remember the giant mechanical crab chasing your party down a mountain, to this day.

For me, it isn’t the road trip with the guys that has me less interested, but the battle system. Even with the substantial patch applied to the demo, I don’t find the combat to be enjoyable. It’s too bad that they took out Stella, but I think Luna is a better character design. Last I heard, they were still considering implementing multiple playable characters as guest characters.

No, we don’t. If it doesn’t looks visually impressive then the mainstream audience will have no interest in it. Its original audience will be 20 years older and many stopped playing video games a long time ago.

I don’t know about that. If it isn’t on the technical level of FFXV, it might not get as much attention, but if it still ends up looking as good as FFXIII, then I think enough people will still play it. People who have stopped playing video games can always return to them. I’m sure there will be plenty of people who have already decided that they’ll be buying a PS4 after having seen the FFVII remake announcement.

I think he’s just saying it’s not a forgone conclusion.

It isn’t, but I’m optimistic about this. I probably shouldn’t be, given the company’s history with the development hell of FFXV, the FFXIV debacle, and arguably the dissatisfaction with the FFXIII trilogy. I think they’re in the process of turning everything around, though. With a new president, they are making amends for their past blunders.

When you say multiple playable characters that are guests, you mean you can control them? That sounds weird when you can’t even control the other party members besides Noctis.

Oh I’m sorry. I got it mixed up. They are thinking about having female characters as guest characters in the party, not playable characters.

“There’s a chance that we may have female characters participate as guests in the party,” said Tabata. “Since [the party] is made up of only men, you might even get to see their behavior change when there’s a lady around.”

It doesn’t look like they are going to budge on there being multiple playable characters, but that part about there being a change in behavior when the men are in the company of a woman is interesting.
